Coins for Change is an annual virtual charity in Club Penguin Rewritten that encourages penguins to donate their coins to various booths and stands located around the island to three different causes. The resulting distribution determines which percentages of real money that selected charities would receive. It is usually held in December during Holiday Parties.

How It Works

Each year, there will be a set amount of real money that will be donated to real life charities and organizations. Usually, there are three categories to choose from:

  • Building Homes
  • Protect the Earth
  • Medical Help

Penguins can donate to any of the three causes above. At the end of each Coins for Change, there will be a percentage assigned to each cause that shows how many of the total number of the coins were donated to that specific cause. That percentage will then determine how much of the real life money will be given to each selected charity.

Example

There is 100 dollars that will be donated in total to selected organizations. At the end of the Coins for Change, there are 1,000,000 coins donated, distributed as:

  • Building Homes: 450,000 coins (45%)
  • Protect the Earth: 250,000 coins (25%)
  • Medical Help: 300,000 coins (30%)

Thus, 45% of the 100 dollars will be donated to Building Homes (45 dollars), while Protect the Earth receives 25% (25 dollars), and Medical Help will receive the last 30% (30 dollars).

History

One day later, they announced the charities they would donate to, and those charities would be Lumos, WWF, and Make a Wish Foundation.[1][2][3]

A grand total of 66 million coins were donated.

Less than 13 hours after the event first released, more than 144.7 million coins have been donated, which led to an update that added an extra digit to increase the coin donation limit. On December 20, 2019, the 200 million coins donated mark was reached, surpassing 2017's and 2018's record.

By 3am PST on January 2, 2020, the amount of coins donated was 441.8 million.
