Penguin Of The Week logo

Penguin of the Week (commonly abbreviated as PotW) was an event that occured on the What's New Blog on a weekly basis. A penguin was chosen every week.

Usually, penguins received the award for being active, kind, respectful, and helpful. Note that although this was generally the widely-accepted criteria, it was not only limited to that.

Each winner received 1000 coins, the Green Viking Helmet, Penguin of the Week Background, and Penguin of the Week Postcard.

Penguin of the Week went on a several month hiatus beginning at the start of 2021 due to the ongoing transition to HTML5. It returned on July 20, 2021.

  • Staff members could not get Penguin of the Week.
  • Penguin of the Week went through a few schedule changes.
    • Penguins of the Week #1 through #5 were announced on Sundays.
    • Penguins of the Week #6 through #189 were announced on Mondays, however, there were some instances where it was announced on Tuesday or even another day of the week instead.
    • Penguins of the Week #190 onward have been announced on Tuesday, however, there were been some instances where it was announced on another day of the week instead.
  • Penguin of the Week was originally meant to be Igloo of the Week, but it was scrapped.[1]
  • Penguin of the Week was paused from March 26, 2017 to April 12, 2017 due to the What's New Blog being down. However, due to delays, the next Penguin of the Week was only announced on April 24, 2017.
    • In similar circumstances, Penguins of the Week #46 to #50 were posted to the Club Penguin Rewritten Discord Server instead. They were later posted to the What's New Blog once it was brought back up.
    • Due to the temporary shutdown of Club Penguin Rewritten in early 2018, Penguin of the Week was paused from March 4, 2018 to April 30, 2018.
  • Various staff members have announced the Penguin of the Week.
    • Zeus announced Penguins of the Week #1 to #50.
      • Stu helped Zeus announce Penguins of the Week #9, #16, #26, #37 and #41 as the latter was busy.
    • Hagrid announced Penguin of the Week #46
    • Rainbert announced Penguins of the Week #51 to #55.
    • Stu announced Penguins of the Week #56 to #191.
      • Lataus helped Stu announce Penguins of the Week #59, #60, #64, #66 and #113 as the latter was busy.

      • Two years later, the idea was used again and Penguin of the Week #99 was appropriately renamed to 'Joker of the Week' during the April Fools' Party 2019.
      • The idea was also used for Penguin of the Week #151 during the April Fools' Party 2020.
    • During Operation: Blackout, Penguin of the Week was appropriately renamed to 'Ruler of the Island'.
    • During the Halloween Party 2019, Penguins of the Week #129 and #130 were appropriately renamed 'Sled of the Week'.
    • During the Puffle Party 2020 and Puffle Party 2022, Penguins of the Week #146 and #220 were appropriately renamed to 'Puffle of the Week'.
    • During the Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt 2020, Penguin of the Week #153 was appropriately renamed to 'Bunny of the Week'.
    • During the Halloween Party 2021, Penguins of the Week #202 and #203 were appropriately renamed to 'Vamp of the Week'.
  • Penguins of the Week #9, #65 and #124, Babycrier[2], Lovebacon56[3] and Lily19530[4] respectively, are the only penguins to win Penguin of the Week on both Club Penguin and Club Penguin Rewritten.
    • However, Penguin of the Week #124, Lily19530, did not get the award on her main account; she got it on an alternate account called Pingu15cool.[5]
  • Originally, players that became Penguin of the Week only received 1000 coins and the Green Viking Helmet.
    • Beginning on January 15, 2018, those who became Penguin of the Week also received the Penguin of the Week Postcard.
    • Beginning on January 18, 2022, those who became Penguin of the Week also received the Penguin of the Week Background. Any player that previously became Penguin of the Week had the background added to their inventory.
  • Penguins of the Week #224 and #225 were going to be Jatin2 and astropeng1 respectively, but was cancelled due to Club Penguin Rewritten shutting down.[6][7]
